Hello! I’m Melanie
Encouragement to Shine Your Light
What if your counselor was someone like you? Trying to balance relationships, work, health, purpose, spirituality… Would that make you change your mind about seeking out their help?
Counseling can help provide perspective on situations we ourselves are too engrossed in to evaluate without bias. My philosophy is that we should all be assigned a counselor at birth to follow us throughout our lives to help us navigate all of the struggles!
During moments of crisis we tend to fall back on old coping mechanisms even if we have learned healthier strategies. Developing insight into these patterns can help us create lasting changes.
My goal is to reach out and encourage those who need inspiration, motivation, guidance, or new perspective.
Individual TherapyIndividual counseling (sometimes called psychotherapy, talk therapy, or treatment) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.
The advantages of Individual counseling are: It helps you have a better understanding of your own self and your emotions. It helps you discover your personal strengths and weakness.
Couples TherapyMarriage counseling typically brings couples or partners together for joint therapy sessions to learn skills to solidify your relationship, such as open communication or problem-solving.
A couples counselor can provide “neutral territory” to help couples agree upon and work through tough issues with support. Couples can decide to rebuild their marriage and make a renewed commitment or clarify the reasons why they need to separate or end the marriage.
I seek to integrate counseling with the Bio-pyscho-social model of psychology, which is an organizational framework for understanding the numerous causes of mental disorders. Integrative treatment addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental influences that affect wellness.
My theoretical perspective in counseling is Adlerian Therapy, which views problems as goal-oriented and purposeful. This approach focuses on understanding motivations and what purpose problems may serve in order to meet goals in healthier ways and overcome problems. Events occurring in one’s past are explored in terms of the impact to us in the present. In addition to Adlerian Therapy I utilize Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques.
